This is your Colorado Snow Report for January 1st 2012: Breckenridge was not a lot of fun yesterday with the 110mph winds, but this morning they reported they received 3 inches of snow. I have to wonder if it really fell or was blown in! Other summit county ski areas did not fare as well with Keystone Resort receiving nothing, and outside of summit county Winter Park is reporting 5 inches of fresh powder. I’m sure Breckenridge was no the only ski area impacted by winds, but that’s what I have from first-hand accounts from people there yesterday.
Today and Tomorrow the weather is going to be fine, a little breezy today in that general area, but tomorrow is blue skies and a slight breeze with a high in the mid to upper 20′s expected at most ski areas tomorrow.
The next snowmaker will show up Friday and the models still do not have a handle on this. Two solutions are a closed 4 corners low that could mean snow area wide and less wind, or an open low that moves through quickly with high winds. I suspect we’ll know more around Monday or Tuesday if the models get their act together. In both cases we can expect cooler temperatures most areas.
